Candles & Clarity: Celebrating International Women’s Day with Financial and Mental Wellness

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Uno Advisers recently joined a unique event organised by BNI that combined creativity with essential life skills. The event featured a hands-on candle-making workshop paired with insightful sessions from experts on two pillars of a fulfilling life: financial and mental wellness.

Representing Uno Advisers, our co-founder and licensed financial planner, Kimberly Law, was invited to speak on the critical role of financial wellness. At Uno Advisers, we strongly believe that financial planning is not just about money; it also plays an important role in ensuring peace of mind to enjoy a more fulfilling life!

 

During her session, Kimberly emphasised that taking care of your personal finances can also be considered as an act of self-care. Good financial management serves as the “GPS” for your life’s journey, ensuring that you stay on track even when unexpected detours occur. 

She also shared that an effective, yet often overlooked, tool for financial management is budgeting. Knowing where every ringgit goes, every individual will have more confidence to navigate their future without facing financial anxiety. She recommended setting up funds for important aspects in life such as retirement, children’s education, living expenses and commitments, building an emergency fund, etc.

Furthermore, in line with Uno Advisers’ philosophy of enjoying the present while planning for the future, Kimberly introduced the concept of a “Fun Fund.” This is a dedicated portion of your cashflow specifically for personal enjoyment. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where one participant asked a common question: “If I don’t have wealth yet, how can I manage it?”

Kimberly’s response was a powerful reminder for everyone in attendance: “You need to plan to get the wealth, then you can manage it.” Wealth management isn’t reserved for the rich; it is the process of planning and discipline that creates wealth in the first place.
