Uno Advisers Champions Early Financial Awareness at “From Mindset to Mastery” Symposium

Uno Advisers was pleased to participate in “The Financial Journey From Mindset to Mastery”, a financial literacy symposium organised by Peninsula Accounting Club in collaboration with FPAM.

The symposium brought together students, aspiring finance professionals and individuals interested in building a stronger foundation in personal finance. As part of the event, the Accounting & Finance Club hosted a sharing session featuring Ian Wong, CEO and Founder of Uno Advisers, who shared practical insights on financial planning, cashflow management and investment strategies for those beginning their financial journey.

Sharing Practical Financial Insights With the Next Generation

During the session, Ian highlighted an important principle in personal finance: cashflow management should come before wealth management.

While many people associate financial planning with investment products or wealth-building strategies, Ian emphasised that a strong financial journey starts with understanding how money is earned, spent, saved and managed. Without clear cashflow habits, it becomes difficult to make informed decisions about investing or long-term wealth planning.

This message was especially relevant to the youth audience, as many students and young adults are beginning to form their financial habits and make early decisions that may shape their future financial wellbeing.

Understanding Investment Strategies Before Taking Action

Ian also shared about different investment strategies and how individuals can assess which approach may be more suitable when starting their financial journey.

Rather than treating investment as a trend or one-size-fits-all solution, the session encouraged participants to think about their own goals, risk appetite, financial stage and level of readiness before making investment decisions.

The discussion helped participants understand that financial planning is not only about choosing where to invest, but also about knowing when, why and how an investment strategy fits into a bigger financial picture.

Addressing a Common Myth in Personal Finance

One of the key moments of the symposium came during the Q&A session, when the audience asked about common myths in personal finance among youth.

Ian addressed a familiar misconception: many young people believe they only need to start planning and managing their finances once they have accumulated wealth.

In response, he explained that the real purpose of financial planning is not to wait until wealth exists, but to build the structure and discipline that allow wealth to grow over time.

In other words, people should not wait to become wealthy before learning how to manage money. They should start planning early so they can build and manage wealth more effectively in the future.
